Active and Passive Differences
Active stretching uses your own muscles to lengthen a target tissue by contracting the opposing muscle group, which also builds functional strength and neuromuscular control. Passive stretching uses an external force — a therapist's assistance, a strap, or gravity — to relax the target muscle and increase immediate range of motion but carries higher risk if done improperly.
We select active or passive techniques based on your goals, current mobility, and comfort with resistance; many sessions blend both approaches for balanced results. Session lengths and fees are 30mins $85, 60mins $135, 90mins $200. Expect a practitioner to monitor form, adjust intensity, and prioritize safety for your circumstances.
What Happens During Session
Sessions begin with a brief intake and movement check to identify tight areas and any positioning limits. For active stretches you will be coached to contract opposing muscles and move through controlled repetitions; for passive stretches the therapist provides support or applied pressure while you relax. Safety checks and verbal cueing are continuous throughout.
Many clients notice immediate mobility gains or a feeling of lightness; others report mild temporary soreness when muscles adapt. One client described feeling energized and refreshed after a combined stretching and detox session. Practitioners tailor intensity and aftercare advice to reduce discomfort while supporting gradual progress without promising medical outcomes.
Who Benefits and Trade-offs
Stretch Therapy fits a range of local lifestyles: commuters to Fort Liberty, parents balancing family schedules, and residents preparing for summer fitness. Active stretching favors people wanting strength and neuromuscular control, while passive stretching suits those seeking immediate range gains. Each approach involves trade-offs between strengthening and short-term flexibility that we discuss during intake.
Plan ahead during our busiest months — January, May, and June — when flexibility goals and summer preparation increase demand. We serve Raeford and nearby towns including Lumber Bridge, St. Pauls, Parkton, Hope Mills, and Fayetteville, and offer evening and weekend appointments to fit shift work and family schedules for convenience.
